The Story
Behind Every Stone
A Swiss gemmologist who sources stones at their origin and sets them by hand.
My Story
I'm Fabian, a gemmologist and silversmith based in Switzerland. I hold the Fellow of the Gemmological Association (FGA) diploma, earned at the Gem and Jewellery Institute of Thailand in Bangkok, at the heart of the world's gemstone trade. That training taught me to read a stone: its species, any treatments it has had, and the tiny inclusions that make each one unlike any other.
I buy directly at the source — at the gem markets of Chantaburi and Bangkok, and from trusted local dealers — choosing every stone in person. No middlemen, no wholesale catalogues. I still write software by day, and the engineer's habits come with me to the loupe: patience, precision, and a refusal to take on trust anything I can check myself. Every stone I sell, I have examined first.
“Each stone has its own character. I never leave the market until I have found the right ones.”
I set those stones by hand in 925 sterling silver, and I choose the chains that carry them with the same care: solid Italian silver, quality-checked in my Swiss workshop. I started JewlArray as an antidote to fast fashion. Fewer pieces, honestly described, made to be kept rather than replaced.
At the gem markets of Chantaburi and Bangkok I examine stones under natural light and the loupe — grading colour and clarity, checking for treatments, and looking for the inclusions that confirm a stone's identity and tell its story. Only the ones I would wear myself come home to Switzerland.
Examined, Set, and Finished in Switzerland
Every gemstone is graded by a qualified gemmologist and set by hand. I believe in fewer, better pieces: honestly described, and made to last a lifetime.
Gemmologist-Verified
Every gemstone is examined and graded by a qualified gemmologist (FGA), with any treatments openly disclosed.
Built to Last
Set in solid 925 sterling silver, made to be worn for years, not seasons.
Sourced Directly
Bought at origin from the people who cut and trade the stones. Fair, transparent, no middlemen.
The Process
Source
I buy loose stones directly at origin, choosing each one in person for colour, clarity, and character.
Assess
Back in the workshop, every stone goes under the loupe and gemmological instruments: species confirmed, treatments noted, quality graded and honestly disclosed.
Set
I hand-set each stone in sterling silver and finish the piece, inspecting it a final time before it reaches you.
